Dawn Mellor

Dawn paints mainly portraits of public figures. Her work is recognies as "pain and passion". Also it is seen as a feminist work. At a young age she has suffered a lot. Mainly from her relatives suiciding - which lead to her work expressing how she felt and what she has gone through. It is a relief from the pain for her.

Her mental illnes has had a possitive effect on her art career - she has won many art awards. Her paintings can be seen as cruel to the celebrities but also as humorous. It is as almost the celebrities have their own mental illness which is visibly shown on the outside. This is a way for Mellor to express her pain she keeps inside.
